Aluminum
that has been strengthened with the addition of silicon and
silicon carbide is very abrasive material to cut and has a
detrimental effect on the life of cutting tools. The super-hardness
of DiaTiger® Diamond is a good coating choice for protecting
solid carbide end mills, drills and inserts cutting aluminum-silicon
alloys. DiaTiger® Diamond Coated tools also allow for
special tool geometry to be incorporated into the tool design
to address chip control problems.

Diamond Tool Coating collaborated with the National Center
for Defense Manufacturing & Machining to help Lockheed
Martin Missiles and Fire Control (LMMFC) gain a more efficient
solution to machining Metal Matrix Composite (MMC). The most
common MMC is cast aluminum reinforced with various amounts
of silicon carbide.
